Summary and objective of the project

CROSSFREIGHT has the strategic objective to improve the intermodal connection between logistic nodes in the regional hinterland and their reference ports, located along the TEN-T networks implementing innovative ICT cross-border strategies for promoting regional and cross regional rail freight transport and logistics, optimizing port to inland nodes rail connections and port related rail last-mile processes, improving access to port areas and reaching better environmental performances at a regional level.

The Port of Šibenik Authority will participate in all the WPs and specifically will implement a soft pilot being an integrated plan that combines a strategy to upgrade railway infrastructure in a port with an approach on how ICT tools can be used to improve its efficiency called "digital railway infrastructure plan for port optimization", reflecting the integrated and technology-driven approach of the plan and highlight the focus on using digital tools and technologies to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the railway infrastructure in the port.

The plan will address the identified challenges and limitations, taking into account the needs and preferences of different stakeholders, such as port authorities, railway operators, and cargo owners and identify the 1CT tools that can be used to improve the efficiency of the upgraded railway infrastructure. This can involve using digital technologies to automate and optimize different aspects of the railway system, such as track monitoring, train scheduling, and cargo tracking.

The plan will take care of integrating the upgraded railway infrastructure and the ICT tools into a comprehensive system that can deliver the desired outcomes, such as increased capacity, faster and more reliable transportation, and improved safety and security.
